Meet Our Tutors

Keith Bankert

Keith Bankert

I have been tutoring professionally for 25 years, after a career in engineering.  I tutor every math and science subject.  I am deeply committed to education and science. When not tutoring, I spend my time engaging our local science community and local residents to effectively address local issues on the topics of public health, science education, and sustainability.

I joined Knowledge Studio One a year ago. I am a retired middle school teacher who taught math and science for the past 37 years in private and public schools. Throughout my career during the summer months, I tutored students and will continue to tutor because of my dedication, enthusiasm and love of teaching.

I’ve worked in higher education for over 15 years and hold a PhD in Physical Chemistry. I am invested in helping students understand science and math concepts to better prepare them for future courses, college, and life in general. As a fully tenured professor at a liberal arts college I have honed my skills and developed teaching methods that I customize to each class and student. I tutor pretty much any math class in addition to chemistry & physics and have been tutoring for five years. This year I accepted a unique opportunity to work at a college in western Illinois and have temporarily relocated there for a year-long sabbatical. I’ll be working remotely but commuting back to Milwaukee on weekends to visit family.

I have served in the field of education as a middle school general science teacher, as well as a high school teacher of anatomy, biology, environmental science, and genetics. I have tutored for over six years, specializing in the ACT and all levels of Algebra and Biology. I take individual needs into account while providing high expectations in a nurturing environment. In addition to my love of teaching, I have a passion for spending time with family, golfing, and watching sports.

I am approaching the end of my PhD in Neuroscience and have always had a passion for teaching, whether that was helping my sister study Spanish vocab or teaching a full university course. As a neuroscientist, my special interest lies in teaching biology – I love helping students understand the big picture of biology and how the smaller details fit into that story. I meet students where they are at and build their knowledge from that point, ensuring they aren’t left with a gap in their understanding. In addition to my tutoring and teaching work, I study the brain and its role in helping us understand the stressful events that surround us. When I’m not studying or teaching science, you’ll find me exploring state and local parks with my fiancé and our two dogs.

B.A. Psychology, St. Olaf College
