Dr. Alex Blom

Dr. Alex Blom

I’ve worked in higher education for over 16 years and hold a PhD in Physical Chemistry. I am invested in helping students understand science and math concepts to better prepare them for future courses, college, and life in general. As a fully tenured professor at a liberal arts college I have honed my skills and developed teaching methods that I customize to each class and student. I tutor pretty much any math class in addition to chemistry & physics and have been tutoring for six years. This year I accepted a unique opportunity to work at a college in western Illinois and have temporarily relocated there for a year-long sabbatical. I’ll be working remotely but commuting back to Milwaukee on weekends to visit family.

PhD, Physical Chemistry, Iowa State University

I am in my 5th year of my PhD in Neuroscience, and I have always had a passion for helping others learn! I have had lots of teaching experiencing through tutoring, mentoring, assistant teaching, and independently instructing my own summer course. I enjoy teaching anatomy, biology, and chemistry. I meet students where they are at and strive to tailor my approach to each student, finding alternative ways of explaining or demonstrating difficult concepts or problems. In addition, to my tutoring and teaching work, I study the effects of opioid use on the brain. Outside of work, you can find me hanging with my cats or tending to my plethora of plants.

Tutor Tesla

Tesla

My experience includes teaching and tutoring students from elementary to high school levels. My areas of expertise encompass physics, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and all levels of mathematics up to calculus. Additionally, I have a passion for space, reflected in my minor in astronomy.

While I plan to pursue graduate studies in astrophysics in the future, I am currently dedicated to tutoring. I find this work deeply fulfilling as it allows me to provide students with a personalized and enriching learning experience. My goal is to help students navigate math topics with ease, avoiding gaps that could negatively impact their grades. I also aim to help students develop a deeper understanding of physics, fostering confidence rather than fear of its complexities.
